I like Holden's writing, having read all the previous novels. However, not matter how much you try upgrading an LCS, it is still a crappy little ship. Having it as the US Naval focus instead of a Burke class destroyer is ridiculous. Also, the Russian Black Sea surface action group of a couple of frigates and a cruiser is hardly a threat to a US Carrier Group as speculated. Finally at the end of this book O'Hare is an Ace, being discharged even for smacking her idiot Wing commander is laughable, a PR nightmare, never would happen. Fantastic writer, great developer of characters, in every one of these books so far. But unfortunately in this Golan episode the author works too hard to square the circle so that the dedicated fascists look no more responsible than the middle East’s only diverse and tolerant democracy. If anything he strains to make those dedicated to persecution and weaponized intolerance seem more sympathetic than the ones who bless their hearts are actually trying to live and let live in that troubled region.
